Welcome to the new NEAM Thread!

This is where you'll be able to find updates about what is happening at NEAM: the latest restoration work taking place and what events are taking place plus more!

After discussion with the mods, it was agreed that this thread would be for all things NEAM, BUT not a thread to discuss our Vulcan XL319. It was agreed that the thread for XL319 would be the one showing XL319 tipping back in January.

The "new" XL319 thread may be found here:

What better way to launch this thread than with some good news on the restoration front!

NEAM's resident Westland Whirlwind HAR.9 XN258 has had a coat of primer applied in preparation for a full repaint. And I must say she's looking rather good with just the primer, so I'm looking forward to seeing her when she's finished.

Thanks must go to all on Team Whirlwind and anyone else who has contributed!

Why is the Vulcan on a separate thread, surely it's just an aircraft like all the others there:confused:
Looking forward to seeing some updates on WJ639;)

I was up there recently to collect a vampire Pod in the Car Park !!!!!.
Had a look around and pleased to see my old Vampire T11 WZ518 is looking so well.
Just one point guys the time line on the display board is confused I got her in 1972 when I worked at Woodford and was involved with delivering the other 31 or 32 (cant remember exactly). She went straight from Woodford a matter of a few miles to our workshop at the old 61 MU site at Handforth. When we lost the workshop a lot of the aircraft got dispersed some to Barton (piston Provost and Skeeter) And the Vampire moved temporarily to Pomona Dock to sit with the Comet briefly before moving to North East,

Good to see the new thread going. I'll try to get some Vulcan shots up soon.

Ooh, how dare you accuse the Vulcan of being "just another aeroplane". :D In fairness the current pace of work doesn't necessitate a separate thread.

Fair point. Yes I should be down on the Saturday. Might have a go at giving her a wash if the weather's up to it. Then carry on trying to get at the PFCUs to level the flying controls.
Will you lot be around?

Transport is an issue for me this weekend so i'm not too confident i'll be in :( if i'm in it'll be via bike but not too appealing given the bank i've got to climb to get back

The word on the street is that another class of Academy students will be attending the Whirlwind re-skin next week. Thanks to NEAM for being absolutely invaluable for the last couple of weeks. The student feedback has been 100% positive. :D

I may be in sometime next week given that I'm on "study leave" despite the fact my exams finished yesterday! :diablo: Roll on at least 2 weeks of freedom!!! :dev2:

Meteor repaint

I like Meteors and made a long trip to NEAM today to see this one.

I really hope that this is not the finished product!

It looks pretty awful in the colours that have been used. I have never seen any Meteor operated in this scheme. Only the underside of the aircraft seemed close to the original scheme.

Haven't the good people at Neam ever heard of masking tape?

I was told by a passing volunteer that they were trying to restore it to the colour scheme used when Ray Hanna flew the aircraft with the Evergreens. Well sorry guys, but this is nothing like it.

However, there's hope yet. The volunteer also said that they were expecting to put on another coat of paint. Please, please, please, use the right shades - yours look silly.

Bravo, thanks for your erm..."constructive" comments, did you happen to ask how much time we have spent so far on just getting the first coats of paint on? the reason it looks like it does to you is because it isnt finished yet :S

its currently in the early stages of the 1944 colour scheme as we are trying to see how it would look, i will pass on your comments to the rest of the team but if you would like to assist us in making it better and into something you would be happy with then by all means come along and help
