Well to be fair XM607 was only away from public scrutiny for a while. The viewing park at Waddington was open to all visitors. It was only when they closed the outer road that you couldn't get to it. Now she sits beside the A15 - all very nice but it's a pity the magnificent beast ain't indoors!

That last shot illustrates what I've always regarded as the Vulcan's "definitive" paint scheme. The camouflage and black nose was (at least for me) what made a Vulcan really look like a Vulcan. Delicious!
I agree that the colour shot of XA892 is indeed remarkable - a good quality image of the silver paint scheme is a rarity.

Interesting - for me the true Vulcan was always white - for obvious reasons. And because my early memories were always of white Vulcans painted in the colours for the role they were originally designed for - along with Valiants and Victors.

Great picture of Luqa with the FAA in strength.....reminds me very much of lying on the rocks at Kalafrana watching Vulcans on finals to Luqa. Thanks for posting.

I guess the colour scheme preference depends on your age and which paint scheme you remember most vividly!
white Vulcans painted in the colours for the role they were originally designed for
To be fair, the camouflage scheme was designed for the same role, as you will know - just at a different altitude!
The only paint scheme I've never disliked is that ghastly finish on poor ol' XH558. I suppose there's a vague irony in the only surviving airworthy Vulcan being painted in a scheme which is unique to that aircraft. Rest assured that if I win the Lottery, I'll be funding a respray!:p

I like them all SH, that's why I have 3 models. 1 in white, one camo and one representing 558 in her current interpretation of 'wrap-around'.
But if I had a Vulcan and had to choose a paintscheme for it, I think camo with black nose, white bib and full colour roundels would probably win out for me :)

Yes, quite true, but as you say in your first paragraph - age has much to with it and the white just dates me as the white V-bomber force holds such strong memories.

so she did a lot of appearances before being grounded and stuck on the gate? whose bright idea was it to stick her where nobody can view her?

I second that, there is something about the pureness of the original design showing through with the silver B.1s.
