XM605 starting to taxi out at Gander, Newfoundland.
A snapshot from the control tower on 24 August 1972.
Britannia is 489, Atlantic 61+14 and DC-3 CF-RTY.
Over by the tree line is an E.P.A. Carvair.
The hangars there are WWII Royal Air Force.

Fantastic - I was there!!:D What's a little handshake between friends?:) That's the iconic Vulcan for me.....but I have a feeling I'm in a minority here!;) Probably becausae not many here ever saw the white "in the flesh".

More brilliant photos. Yep, that's XH558 in the paint scheme which I'd happily re-apply if I was rich!:p

Lovely shot Mk12! I'm sure I would have experienced hand shake witnessing that flypast.
There is a real way ahead look to very early Vulcans, Victors, and DH110 IMO difficult to define really, something like an old fashioned view of the future.
That's the iconic Vulcan for me.....but I have a feeling I'm in a minority here!;) Probably becausae not many here ever saw the white "in the flesh".
Not sure about that SH, the anti-flash white was the sole finish carried by the type for six or so years!
The prototypes, VX770 & '777, being finished in white was just coincidental being a few years before the bomber white scheme came about.
I must admit I would agree about the white under, camo upper, and black nose being my favourite scheme, although the all camo wrap around (in the correct paint!) comes close!
I guess the all silver must be the rarest with just the early B.1s being used in that scheme.

Al - great picture at Luqa - can you date it? I was on the island quite a lot in the late 60s/early 70s and recall Luqa as a busy airfield but never saw the tin triangle there.
It was taken in 1969, but it was taken for the Sea Vixens, the Vulcan taxiing by was coincidental and a very common visitor at Luqa. Excercise Lime Jug I seem to recall

Don't suppose anyone has seen any pictures of Boscombe Down's B2 which had some rather unusual black calibration markings on its bomb bay doors?

From a slide that I was given a few years ago. Taken at Goose Bay in about 1972, possibly earlier?.......XH558.

Mind you, the shot above of VX777 is pretty impressive too. Vulcans really are magnificent!
