Not many out there. But three complete ones are currently with collectors building airworthy Tempest/Typhoon projects.

-Both Duxford and Hendon have got a 'sectioned' example...
...not sure if you combined both you'd get a complete engine?
(No, you wouldn't; I've checked!)

-The engine in the first post is the Hendon example.

-Anybody have the time and care to consolidate all the info into an up to date list?
A previous thread https://forum.keypublishing.com/forum/historic-aviation/89431-napier-sabre-list
With 3 different teams building airworthy Typhoons and a Tempest (or should that be Tempests now?), I would have thought that any available Sabres or parts would be known about/already acquired, or maybe not?

-DaveR's list from 10 years ago, with JDK's edit on the worldwide ones
A few changes have happened since then
I have the rough outline of the list I have...I don't tend to collect the engine numbers/mark so have added where I happen to have been given them (many of the recovered/restored engines are not recognisable anyway). I look forward to comments, corrections and hopefully additions :)UK Museums & Groups

-Some of the Sabres on display in museums today are green in colour. Was this simply standard Napier practice with exhibition engines or were all Sabres finished in this colour, even those destined for service?

-DaveR might list 35 entries but remove those recovered, sectioned or “maybe” and it’s down to just nine (the New Zealand one is also sectioned).
As for adding to the nine, I understand Kermit has three, maybe four, and DaveR has located another two, with a genuine lead on at least another. They’re turning up in unexpected places but it never ceases to amaze what’s still out there.

-When it comes to finding specific aircraft parts never say never. I'll echo Vega's comment about what's out there and keeps turning up.
Regarding the Sabre engine; I'm very much looking forward to the day when I can hear one running.

-The problem is that sea-salvaged Sabre engines being aluminium, are likely to be riddled with corrosion; and intact undamaged engines are suspect unless they were properly inhibited as specified in A.P.1810A. Vol 1,Section 3 paragraph 36; and associated Vol 2 leaflets: A.P.1464/C32W and A.P.830/C5.
The criteria states that after initial running; the engine must be inhibited if it is anticipated that it will stand for 48hours or more before restarting. The effect of 70-odd years silence is not mentioned anywhere!
The original Inhibition fluid is specified as:
Intava Corrosion Inhibitor Type C (Stores Ref: 33C/777) or Corrosion Inhibitor (Stores Ref: 33c/563) if the Intava version is not available.

-48 hours, is that it?! I can’t see that happening in the warbird world. They’d better stock up on LOTS of inhibition oil if they follow the AP.....

-Letˋs see this summer. If Vintage V12 is able to restore a reliable Centaurus, they will also be able to walk over water, or restore a Sabre to running condition! I think the water option is more likely. :)

-I don’t think the issue of getting a sabres running is going to be an issue at all - plenty of them ran, it’s the management of them that was the issue in service.
It will be interesting to see the civilian TBO time proposed.
