Back in Issue 136, we introduced you to NZA Simulations and showcased its Nelson Airport scenery for Microsoft Flight Simulator (MFS). We were so impressed with its work that we granted the product the coveted PC Pilot Platinum Award, finishing the review with the line – “I wait with bated breath to see what Proline scenery gets released from NZA in the future”…
Well, the wait is now over with NZA’s May 2022 release of its Mount Cook Region scenery add-on for MFS. Rather than just focusing on a singular airport, the team has created a scenery package that encompasses a wider area around New Zealand’s tallest and most famous mountain: Mount Cook.
The Mackenzie District
Within this area are two highly detailed general aviation airfields: Mount Cook Airport and Glentanner Aerodrome. While both locations may be relatively small, they absolutely burst with character. Located 10km apart from one another at the head of Lake Pukaki in the South Island’s Mackenzie District, each field is home to year-round flight-seeing operations from the wide flat-bottomed Tasman Valley that is considered the gateway to the Southern Alps mountain range.
