German Tornado unit planning to participate in Exercise Cobra Warrior

The RAF’s Exercise Cobra Warrior has attracted a wide range of participants and one of the most popular among enthusiasts has been German Air Force Tornados.

The unit which previously took part was Taktisches Luftwaffengeschwader 51 (TaktLwG 51) "Immelmann", from Jagel Air Base, with its Tornado ECRs. It last attended the RAF’s premier training event in September 2022 for Cobra Warrior 22-2. Key.Aero contacted TaktLwG 51 to find out whether it would be attending the exercise again. The unit’s spokesman said that TaktLwG 51 is planning to take part in a number of exercises and “Cobra Warrior is one of them.”

The last time the Wing sent six Tornado ECRs to RAF Waddington in Lincolnshire for Cobra Warrior. The first Cobra Warrior of this year was cancelled and the dates for the 24-2 event have not been released, though in recent years the second iteration has been held in September. However, the TaktLwG 51 spokesman wouldn’t be drawn on which Cobra Warrior the unit is planning to attend or the air base the Tornados would operate from.
