U.S. Navy investigators will try to find out why a Blue Angel plane crashed into the Gulf of Mexico Wednesday.
The FA 18 Hornet crashed into the gulf four miles south of Perdido Pass.
The pilot ejected safety and was taken to Naval Hospital Pensacola in good condition.
John Rue says he witnessed the accident.
He said the pilot "waited until I think he was probably no more than twenty feet off the water before he ever ejected, landing his plane this way so he wouldn't impact on the bottom or wouldn't break it up on or whatever. And then his partner circled over head until the rescue helicopter got there and they pulled him out."
Navy officials have not released the name of the pilot.
