I´ve seen alot of colour profiles in magazines foremost iraqi Mig-21s in a uniqe for Iraq two-tone sand and brown scheme.
But i´ve come to wonder if the iraqis really do some painting themselves because REAL photos of all iraqi aircraft i´ve seen (MiG-21,23,35,29, Mirage F1, Su-25) seems to have their factory scheme (or schemes from overseas overhaul sites-Yugoslavia, East-Germany, Lithuania etc.)

Is the nice sand and brown scheme for real or is it a misinterpretation from black and white pics?
And in that case what scheme would a iraqi Chengdu F-7B have?
Chinese 1980s delivery scheme or like the F-7s from Egypt????

Grateful for answers

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 25-06-02 AT 09:54 AM (GMT)]The best might be to check the following thread about the MiG-21 on the http://www.acig.org forum:
http://www.acig.org/phpBB/viewtopic.php?mode=viewtopic&topic=281&forum=…

See the 4th post on that page: it offers detailed description of the MiG-21 in Iraqi service, including advices for camo paintings and markings.

Sorry, but almost everything published to this topic ever is wrong.

Thanks!!!!
The aircombat forum answered all the suspicions i had about the artworks.

So I assume the chinese F-7Bs can´t be in the same
soviet "desert export scheme" as the MiG-21MFs.

Maybe all grey as the chinese examples (J-7II)?????

Hm; I never saw any (neither Chinese grey J-7IIs, nor Iraqi F-7Bs), but my guess is that they look exactly like Egyptian F-7Bs (albeit, without any organge-black pannels).

Hello Tom!!!
You seem to know quite a lot about iraq air force :) !!
I´ve searched the net for some egyptian F-7s but found very few pic.
The one that I´ve found had two different schemes

The first is a profile of a F-7A (!) from 26 sq Inchas AB

Pic: http://www.geocities.com/alvmaia/Mig/21f/21Fegy1.GIF

From the site: http://geocities.yahoo.com.br/alvmaia/Mig/

The other pic from the officially egyptian air force site (http://www.mmc.gov.eg/) shows an egyptian F-7B in a grey scheme resembling Pakistani F-7Ps but somehow this scheme feels a bit too modern for a 1982 iraqi F-7B.

Wich of these egyptian schemes do you think is the right for an iraqi F-7B ??

Thanks in Advance

F-7B (not MiG-21F-13)

That first one is a profile of an EAF MiG-21F-13 from the early 1970s, not F-7B of the early 1980s (whoever draw that color profile, he obviously doesn't know the Egyptians have got their F-7Bs delivered from late 1982, Iraqis from early 1983 onwards), consequently, the sheme I'm talking about is the second one.

Bear in mind, however, that this is not 100% sure: there are no photos of Iraqi F-7Bs.
