Hi all,

surely you don't need to tell ma about the Handley Page Hampden shown in this picture. But what tricycle-like (in fact, it has four wheels) gadget are the soldiers operating there? Looks like it needs a decent push.

Thank you for answers, and regards,

According to the original Getty image (much better image) found on their website:

A Handley Page Hampden twin-engine medium bomber of No.50 Squadron Royal Air Force Bomber Command showing the nose section with the bomb-aimer's window and the forward gun-turret[,]  is loaded with an aerial magnetic mine before an operation on 23 March 1941 at RAF Waddington, United Kingdom.

I doubt they were trying to load the mine into the gun-turret! So, add a comma after ‘gun-turret’, and I would say it is probably be a trolley for an aerial magnetic mine.

I would have said it’s a torpedo handler but a mine would work with it.

Thanks MM. Funny things sometimes happen with cut’n-paste. Odd.
