I have an arrester hook with numbers  27H/2542 and RO 619  with crows foot on it.

It was claimed to be from a Sea Hawk and it looks like those seen on sea hawks.

Was there a single design for arrester hooks across the FAA or do these numbers match to a single aircraft type?

The 27A is a general code for aircraft wheel equipment?

Thanks

27H is Miscellaneous Aircraft Equipment.

My copy (1944) lists only Hooks, Arrester for the heavy bombers - Lancaster, Halifax, etc.

Perhaps hooks were type specific during the war years and were only standardised later on, resulting in them gaining a Stores Reference number?

Just a thought.

Thanks Alan a note from Rob yesterday said the Wyvern had a differnet hook so it may not have been a general item but type specific.

Not very detailed regarding aircraft types, but attached should be extracts from AP1086 Sec 27H dated March 1965

Hopefully it’ll be of interest.

Dave so 27H/2542 on page 2 would mean it is from a Firebrand ?

I attach some images

27H/2542 is the number stated in the Seahawk spare parts catalogue ,for the Arrestor hook.

Thank you. Most likely ( from production numbers) it is Sea Hawk. But the AP suggests it was also used on Firebrand Mk 2 - of which only a dozen were made.

No, in the case of 27H/2542 there is not aircraft type against it.
The listings in AP1086 can be a little confusing and sometimes for the most specific of items that can only fit one aircraft type there is no type shown. I guess the over-riding document would be the Vol 3 Parts Schedule for the aircraft/equipment.
