-RE: Russia selects Yak-130!!
>1) What will happen to the Mig-A/T??
With a larger market for this type starting to appear, i.e. T-50, MAKO, etc. I feel that MIG will still try and market the AT to the gobal market and now probably more so.
>2) How many Yak-130 will Russia purchase??
They need a lot of them, but Russian aviation has not experienced large scale production for sometime now, and with that, it may take quite a while to fill any large requirement.
>3) Who are likely export customers for the Yak-130??
AeroWorldNet reports that Slovakia may be the next customer. Otherwise it will compete on the AT/LCA market much the same way the Fulcrum and Flanker do in the fighter market. Chances will be about the same, but we may see a modified/westernised version popping up to improve its chances.
>4) Was the Yak-130 the best choice??
Note sure. I suspect the Russians may have been looking for something with a bit more growth potential in it, that is, ease to which it can be adapted or fitted for new roles. And from what I have read the Yak-130 seems to fit that bill better than the Mig-AT in some aspects.
>5) How did the Yak-130 differ from the Mig-A/T??
Not huge differences although have a look at these pages.

Its a major boost for Yakolev and their future business prospects if the whole thing actually goes through. Was there any politics involved this time?

Regarding exports:
I have heard that Algeria has decided to purchase the MiG-AT and not the YAK-130. I'm not sure of desired numbers or even delivery dates but it seems that this is a done deal.

From what I've read in the past the MIG-AT is considerably cheaper and simpler to buy and to operate which is why Algeria might be interested.

-RE: Russia selects Yak-130!!
the MiG-AT is cheaper and simpler because to me it seems more like a basic trainer than a more powerful LIFT.
Pretty interesting the RuAF decided to go for both! hmm perhaps they could use the MiG-AT as the basic trainer (well ok it's a bit too powerful for basic) but the Yak as the advance trainer.
so..the Yak uses Slovakian engines..I wonder how good they are..

do they power lada's??
I like the yak design much better than the mig-at, the mig has an older vintage perhaps but I thin the yak aircraft looks right- aart, and maybe i'm being particulaly pedantice, the vertical blades forward of the canopy, this would suggest the need to divert vortices generated from the nose, as i can imagine they would rip across the large angle generated by the change in the nose contour, other than that, its the one for me!! know anywhere i can get some scale plas???

I wonder if the Yak-130 is capable of carrying a medium range AAM like the MAKO and A/T-50

I like the Yak-130's looks and, quite frankly, you guys have disappointed me with the pathetic number of pics posted :-) ;-) }>

Someone else was thinking along the "cheaper" thought process.
The MiG-AT received the designator MISER and the Yak-130 has the designation MITTEN.

Yakovlev has won the Russian Federation Air Force's tender for a new-generation combat trainer, the company's Yak-130 programme manager Konstantin Popovich has told Jane's Defence Weekly.
I have some questions..
1) What will happen to the Mig-A/T??
2) How many Yak-130 will Russia purchase??
3) Who are likely export customers for the Yak-130??
4) Was the Yak-130 the best choice??
5) How did the Yak-130 differ from the Mig-A/T??
Any other comments on this development??
