ACCIDENT REPORT: Cause of British Airways 787 gear collapse confirmed

Authorities have concluded a major investigation into the events which resulted in the nose of a British Airways Boeing 787 hitting the ground. The Dreamliner, G-ZBJB (c/n 38610) was parked on Stand 583 at London/Heathrow when the incident took place on June 18, 2021.

Due to international travel restrictions and reduced traffic flows during the coronavirus pandemic, the aircraft, a -8 variant of the Boeing widebody, was being prepared for a cargo-only flight to Frankfurt. In its final report, the UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) said a ground maintenance team was working to address three fault messages associated with the nose landing gear (NLG) doors while the flight crew prepared the aircraft for the short flight to Germany.
