Rising from the ashes of the 2017 event, where all flying activity was unceremoniously cancelled, this year’s Victory Show at Foxlands Farm near Cosby offered the chance to see an interesting assortment of warbirds performing in brilliant summer conditions over the Leicestershire countryside.

Although the majority of the flying displays were sedate in nature, with many of the aircraft limited to multiple curved passes along the new display line, the conditions of the day and the rarity of the aeroplanes meant this was well received. Most of the fighters — largely operated by the Air Leasing stable — were flown in set-piece scenarios, with a continually developing storyline and aerial pursuit. For the first scenario, Hurricane P2902 chased Will Greenwood’s Bücker Bestmann (or Heliopolis Gomhouria) before being bounced by Hispano Buchón ‘White 9’, which was in turn dealt with by a pair of Spitfires, LFVc EE602 and IXT ML407.

The only aircraft to perform any kind of aerobatic display was Canadian-built Harvard IV G-CJWE, owned by the UK’s Cirrus Aircraft dealer, which wears attractive California Air National Guard markings and Dazzling Debs nose art. In …
