Second US Navy carrier arrives in Middle East as Israel-Hamas conflict intensifies

The US Navy’s USS Dwight D Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group (IKECSG) has arrived in the Middle East as part of a show of force in the wake of the Hamas attack on Israel.

The USS Gerald R Ford (CVN-78), front, and USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69), rear, transit the Mediterranean Sea on November 3. The two CSGs are operating in the area at the direction of the Secretary of Defense to bolster deterrence in the region.

Carrier Strike Group 2 (CSG-2) comprises the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, USS Dwight D Eisenhower (CVN-69), the Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser, USS Philippine Sea (CG-58), and the Arleigh Burke-class destroyers USS Mason (DDG-87) and USS Gravely (DDG-107) of Destroyer Squadron 22 (DESRON 22). In addition to these warships, CSG-2 also includes Carrier Air Wing 3 (CVW-3) – which consists of nine air squadrons – and the Information Warfare Commander.
