Original Focke-Wulf Fw 190 close to flying again

A Focke-Wulf Fw 190F-8 has commenced engine trial runs in Arizona

On January 31 the air around GossHawk Unlimited’s Casa Grande facility in Arizona was filled with the raspy growl of a BMW 801 radial engine as Focke-Wulf Fw 190F-8 White 1 (WkNr 931862/N91FW) completed its first engine run.

The rare German warbird’s first flight in nearly eight decades is approaching. Owned by the Collings Foundation, the engine runs occurred almost 78 years to the day after the former Luftwaffe fighter was shot down over Norway while with Jagdgeschwader 5.

Following some minor adjustments, a second set of runs took place on February 28. As well as attending to the necessary paperwork, GossHawk is now set for more engine trials and taxi tests. Once completed, this remarkable warbird will be only the second airworthy original Fw 190 in the world.
