The Northrop Grumman MQ- 8C Fire Scout will start initial operational test and evaluation in April. The US Navy had taken delivery of 19 MQ-8Cs by January 2018. While certified as safe to operate in November 2017, the MQ-8C’s transition to operations has been delayed by the high operational tempo of US Navy warships it is intended to operate from, especially Littoral Combat Ships. Scheduled MQ-8C upgrades are to include modifying its Link 16 datalink to enable it to provide inflight target updates for over-the-horizon missiles. David C Isby
