Brazilian carrier Azul Airlines has been crowned the global leader for on-time performance by aviation analytics firm Cirium in its 2022 On-Time Performance Review.
Despite the challenges faced by the aviation industry in the past year, with many airlines and airports experiencing delays and disruptions, several carriers and airports shone. Delta Air Lines was awarded the Cirium Platinum Award for global operational excellence for the second year running, while Azul took the top spot for on-time performance.
Other regional winners included Thai AirAsia in the Asia Pacific, Oman Air in the Middle East and Africa, Azul in Latin America, Iberia in Europe and StarFlyer in the low-cost carrier category. Haneda Airport was named the top performing airport globally.
According to the review, an on-time flight is one that arrives within 15 minutes of its scheduled gate arrival time, while for an airport it is defined as departing within 15 minutes of its scheduled departure.
Jeremy Bowen, CEO of Cirium, congratulated Delta on its "excellent performance" and said the top-ranked airlines and airports "deserve their recognition for this well-orchestrated achievement."
