Two more Eurofighter Typhoons that are destined to join the ranks of the Kuwait Air Force (KAF) were seen carrying out pre-delivery flight testing from Leonardo’s production and test facility at Turin-Caselle Airport in northern Italy on December 27, 2022.
The two single-seat aircraft – which currently wear the Italian temporary test registrations MT7500 and MT7501 – are expected to be serialled as KS002 and KS003, respectively, once they have been delivered to the KAF in the near future. Kuwait has ordered 28 examples of the multi-role fighter – comprising 22 single-seat and six two-seat aircraft – in total. At present, six Eurofighters have been delivered to the KAF and are operating in-country, with flight testing and deliveries set to continue at a steady pace through 2023.
The provisional Italian serial number applied to these aircraft – coded ‘MT’ or Matricola Temporanea (Temporary Serial Number) – refers to an aircraft that is identical to one already in service and is undergoing its final flight tests before being accepted by a respective customer. This code replaces the ‘CSX’ code that is applied to such aircraft during the experimental test phase.
