Airliner World’s Craig West travelled east to the Kazakh city of Almaty to hear how flag carrier Air Astana is transforming its business and cementing its position as the leading airline in the region.
The autumnal sunshine streamed through the window of Peter Foster’s office on an unusually mild afternoon in Almaty. Air Astana’s president and CEO was in an upbeat mood and understandably so – the Kazakh flag carrier recently scooped another two Skytrax awards; best airline in central Asia and the CIS, and another for best service in the region. It’s no stranger to such accolades – having landed the former on ten separate occasions – but to do so during such a challenging period not just for the company, but for its home nation and the wider region, is testament to the impressive work of Foster and his team.
