The Sukhoi Superjet 100 has begun to turn heads in Western markets and SuperJet International, the company charged with developing those markets, is feeling bullish about its prospects, reports Bernie Baldwin.

Increased operations of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) in North America and Europe pepped up SuperJet International’s (SJI) 10th anniversary celebrations last year – now it aims to add new operators from fresh regions to its customer portfolio.

The joint venture (JV) between Russia’s Sukhoi Holding Company and Italian aerospace giant Leonardo (formerly Finmeccanica) is responsible for all sales, marketing and deliveries of the SSJ100 to Europe, the Americas, Oceania, Africa and Japan as well as being the global provider of training, and aftersales support and services.

The company also looks after the design and development of VIP and cargo versions of the Superjet 100 family.

Last year also saw the 10th year of the aircraft’s rollout in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. The type entered service in 2011, since when there have been more than 120 deliveries.
