Eindecker reproduction flying in New Zealand

The Vintage Aviator Limited (TVAL) has released airborne footage of its latest Fokker Eindecker reproduction

Although less than ideal weather conditions prevented it from flying at the recent Wings Over Wairarapa Air Festival at Hood Aerodrome, near Masterton on New Zealand’s North Island, TVAL has recently released some footage of its newest Eindecker in the air.

Thanks to footage captured by the Historical Aviation Film Unit it’s possible to see and hear this remarkable and authentic-sounding machine take to the air. TVAL pilot Andrew Vincent flew the ‘Fokker’ a couple of times in November 2023 to practise a routine for the airshow. There’s also some brief footage of TVAL’s Avro 504K within the same film.

On the New Zealand civil register as ZK-EIN, the Fokker is based on a fuselage built by Achim Engels in Germany. A few of the latter were brought to NZ by TVAL which completed the construction process in 2023. A second Eindecker E.III has been built in parallel with ZK-EIN and should make its first flight in the near future. One impressive aspect of the work is that both machines are powered by original 9-cylinder Gnome Monosoupape rotary engines.
