Spanish low-cost airline Vueling is currently undergoing an ambitious transformation to position it for sustainable growth in the coming years. Owned by International Airlines Group (IAG), the carrier began implementing a 19-point plan in 2021 and the fruits of its labour are already being felt.
After two years of losses due to COVID-19, the firm returned to the black in 2022, recording a profit of €187m, which was within €50m of its pre-pandemic performance.
One of the key components of Vueling’s current strategy is the ‘deseasonalisation’ of its operation, which aims to increase flying in the winter. For airlines based in Spain and those that serve it, the summer season is the gift that keeps on giving.
