Chris Frame reports from the 2018 AAA National Conference and talks to the organisation’s CEO Caroline Wilkie about the state of the nation’s airports.
As an isolated continental nation, Australia is uniquely reliant on its airports for commerce, trade and tourism. As such, the Australian airport network is a significant contributor to the national economy, accounting for AU$34.6bn (£19.7bn) in annual economic activity. With airports being such a significant economic driver, the Australian Airports Association (AAA) was established in 1982 to provide a collective voice for all Australian airports and aerodromes. In the past 36 years, the organisation has grown to include 360-member airports, as well as more than 160 corporate members; developing a sound record of advocating for airport development, funding and growth.
Each year, the AAA hosts a national conference, giving airport management and other interested bodies an opportunity to come together and learn from best practice examples; sourced both locally and internationally.
