Buffalo goes on display in Canada

In late November 2023, the Canada Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa placed its latest exhibit on display – former Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) CC-115 Buffalo 115452/452

The airframe was acquired by Ingenium, Canada’s Museums of Science and Innovation. It’s one of 15 examples of the recently retired de Havilland Canada-built twin turboprop short take-off and landing (STOL) utility transport/ search and rescue aircraft.

The machine was flown from its former base at Comox, British Columbia, to Trenton in Ontario on March 15, 2022. There, it was disassembled for transport by road to its new home in Ottawa, where it arrived in October 2023. Having undertaken the type’s last operational flight on January 15, 2022, while assigned to 442 Squadron, ‘452’ is currently on display in the museum’s Reserve Hangar.

Chris Kitzan, Director General, Canada Aviation and Space Museum said: “It is a great honour to welcome this historically significant aircraft to our offerings at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum. The CC-115 Buffalo is a key addition to our RCAF and de Havilland collections. It will help us share stories of the evolution of the RCAF and its workforce, as well as about de Havilland's role as a driver of innovation in Canada.”
