British Airways has made history by flying the quickest subsonic flight between New York/John F Kennedy and London/Heathrow.
The BA 112 rotation flew the link in a record 4hrs and 56mins, which attained a top speed of 825mph helped from tailwinds in the jet stream. It was operated by a Boeing 747-400, G-CIVP (c/n 28850).
Narrowly missing out was rival Virgin Atlantic which followed in suit, albeit at 4hrs 57mins using an Airbus A350-1000, G-VPOP (c/n 298) on VS4.
Both broke the last record which was set by a Norwegian Boeing 787-9, G-CKHL (c/n 63310), at 5hrs and 13mins routing also from JFK, although this was to London/Gatwick.
