Australian Sycamore refurbishment complete

The oldest surviving helicopter to have served the RAAF has been rolled out in Australia

Volunteers at the Moorabbin Air Museum have recently completed work on Bristol Sycamore A91-1.

Initially delivered to Britain’s Army Air Corps in August 1951 as WV695, the airframe was transferred to the RAAF the following month and served until March 1965.

One of just two examples used for general support duties at the Woomera rocket range in South Australia, the aircraft has been part of the collection at Moorabbin – the nation’s largest volunteer-based non-profit aviation museum – since 1967. Refurbishment work commenced in October 2019.
