Akasa Air earmarks international expansion

Akasa Air is expanding its international network, adding three new destinations to its route map – Kuwait, Jeddah and Riyadh.

The move comes after the airline made its international debut to Doha, Qatar on March 28. Daily flights to Jeddah/King Abdulaziz from Mumbai/Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and a twice-weekly link from Ahmedabad/Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel begin on July 15 and 20, respectively. Flights to the other two destinations will follow in due course.

Neelu Khatri, co-founder and SVP international, Akasa Air, said: “We are thrilled to expand our presence in the Middle East with the addition of Jeddah to our growing network. We are extremely proud to witness our global footprint grow alongside our domestic services, with the addition of our second global destination within a short time.”

The airline added that it would be “rapidly expanding its global presence in the coming months” after gaining permission to launch international flights in September 2023, having taken delivery of its 20th Boeing 737 MAX 8. Indian regulators require that an airline has 20 aircraft in its fleet before starting international flights.

Akasa Air launched services in August 2022. Since then, it has flown more than eight million passengers and now connects 24 cities. Currently, it has a fleet of 24 737 MAX 8s with more than 200 still on order, including the MAX 10 and MAX 200.
