The airline is taking advantage of easing restrictions across its network
Air Canada has announced that it will reintroduce services to the US with up to 220 daily flights between the two countries, while also returning to Vienna with a connection from Toronto.
The Montreal-based carrier has announced its summer transborder schedule to include 55 routes across 34 destinations in the US which will coincide with the loosening of travel restrictions between the two North American neighbours on August 9.
The new travel rules will mean that fully vaccinated Americans can enter Canada for non-essential travel and the requirement for hotel quarantine will been removed.
Relaxed testing requirements will allow Canadians taking short transborder trips for less than 72 hours to do their pre-entry tests in Canada.
Mark Galardo, senior vice president, network planning and revenue management at Air Canada, said: “The easing of travel restrictions announced today by the federal government is an important step based on science. Air Canada's proud tradition of being the largest foreign carrier in the US is reflected in our schedule which has been developed to provide a wide range of choices for customers in both countries. We are planning to restore services to all 57 US destinations previously served as conditions allow.”
Air Canada has also restarted a thrice weekly connection to Vienna, Austria from Toronto utilising a Boeing 787-9. The route restarts under the backdrop of changing travel rules for Europeans travelling to Canada. From September 7 the country will allow those who have received a double vaccination to enter.
Julian Jäger, member of the management board of Vienna Airport, commented: “The return of Air Canada to Vienna represents an important step for [the city] and for Austria as tourism locations and we are pleased to once again welcome more overseas guests to our country. The resumption of [the services] and the loosening of Canadian entry requirements for European travellers as of September 2021 will make another important region accessible from Europe again.”
