Air Algerie takes it to the MAX

Air Algerie is to grow its narrowbody fleet after confirming an order for eight Boeing 737 MAX 9s.

The deal, announced at the Paris Air Show, also includes a memorandum of understanding for two 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighters (BCFs).

The Algiers-based carrier’s general manager, Yacine Benslimane, remarked: “This order will contribute to the development of our fleet. This acquisition is part of our fleet extension strategy through the purchase of new aircraft.”

Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and CEO Stan Deal added: “The 737-9 is ideally suited for Air Algérie's regional network, providing it with additional capacity and flexibility to operate seamlessly with its existing 737 fleet. In addition, the highly reliable and capable 737-800 Boeing Converted Freighters will enable Air Algerie to capture growing cargo opportunities, expanding beyond its passenger business.”

The incoming MAX jets are expected to complement the African carrier’s narrowbody fleet, which currently consists of more than 30 737 series aircraft.
