The Aeroflot Group has signed a financial agreement with Aviakapital-Servis, a subsidiary of Russian aviation company Rostec, for the lease of 52 aircraft.
The deal covers six Yakovlev MC-21-310s, which will be delivered to Aeroflot, plus a dozen MC-21-310s and 34 Irkut SJ-100s for Rossiya Airlines.
Aeroflot CEO Sergei Alexandrovsky said: “The agreement with the lessor of the MC-21 and SJ-100 aircraft, Aviacapital-Service, is a logical continuation of the partnership with the Rostec State Corporation and the United Aircraft Corporation. These newest Russian airliners will allow Aeroflot to successfully implement an updated strategy and continue its growth and development.”
The 52 airframes form the initial part of a $16bn order for over 339 Russian-built aircraft announced in September 2022 as the group looked to move away from its reliance on Western-built aircraft. This included 210 MC-21-310s, 89 SJ-100s and 40 Tupolev Tu-214s.
Aviakapital-Servis had ordered 85 MC-21s in 2011, and Aeroflot had planned to lease 50 of these airframes, half of which it intended to be the Pratt & Whitney PW1400G powered -300 variant. However, international sanctions brought against the country due to the invasion of Ukraine have left only th…
