Following test-flying, the silver machine was due to appear at the Warbirds over Wanaka International Air Show over the Easter weekend, before being crated up for shipping to Texas for San Antonio-based owner Rod Lewis’s Lewis Air Legends collection. It replaces Lewis’s previous Avspecs rebuild, Mosquito FBVI PZ474, which first flew on 13 January 2014 and was subsequently sold to the Charles Somers Warbird Collection in Sacramento, California.
Avspecs founder and owner Warren Denholm said, “Mosquito number four has been easier than the first one we did, FB26 KA114 [which flew after rebuild in September 2012]. We have more technical information than previously, which has helped speed things up, and the team is now much more acquainted with the nuances of the aircraft.”
