Upgrading to the NVIDIA RTX 4070
Microsoft’s latest iteration of its Flight Simulator is four years old this year. My, how time flies! I first set eyes on the latest version after a six year pause: the business of life and changing cities twice seemed to leave less room in my life for flight sims. But that six years left me little prepared for what I would see when I rejoined the flight sim community.
Inevitably, adding FS into my world in 2021 required a hardware upgrade, so I added the requisite pieces to my old box and sold or discarded the six-year-old components. I went with the ROG Strix mainboard, the RTX 3060, AMD Ryzen 5900X, and two Samsung EVO drives. I found myself flying in commercial jets for the first time, and learning the more advanced systems, including SIDs and STARs. A two-monitor setup left me well-prepared to add Navigraph to the mix. My system ran everything like gangbusters, and FS looks terrific at 2560x1440. The friends who toured through my office were universally impressed.
