The latest destination from Orbx is YMML Melbourne International Airport for Microsoft for Flight Simulator.
Melbourne is the second busiest airport in Australia, taking over from Essendon in 1970 as the main hub for Melbourne. It was expanded to four terminals with 68 gates in 2023, with just over 40 airlines operating from the airport.
Developed by the Orbx team led by Sascha Normann, the package for Microsoft Flight Simulator is an authentic rendition of Melbourne Airport and the immediate surrounding area based on May 2023 data. Highlights include high-resolution ground polygons with PBR texturing throughout, accurate runway markings and taxiway lighting at its correct location as well as 155 accurately placed taxi signs.
All airport buildings are faithfully recreated, including the two towers, maintenance hangars and interior terminal modelling of departure lounges. A detailed recreation of Melbourne Jet Base with an interior and static model of the restored DC-3, Kanana, is also included. It also comes with VDGS (Visual Docking Guidance System) at the gates, custom traffic animations and ground service equipment such as vehicles and other apron clutter.
The surrounding area sports elevated roadways (including the new ones currently under construction) with more than 1,400 accurately placed streetlights and approximately 12,000 accurately placed cars landside. Several points of interest are also modelled, such as the Airservices Australia compound, landside hotels, car parks, McDonald's and the Mercedes-Benz dealership with a helipad.
The entire airport is optimised for performance and the Orbx Central configuration utility can activate/deactivate individual components to match your system's capabilities. YMML is available on OrbxDirect for AUD$34.95 (approx £18.59).
