Max Darby, a decorated WW2 bomber pilot, died in a house fire at 2AM on 27.8.10. He lived with his wife in Rosebud, a suburb of Victoria, Australia. She made a very brave effort to save him, but was driven back by the flames.
According to the reports he flew more than 50 ops. A terrible, terrible waste of a much-loved man.
I'm trying to find out a little more about Mr. Darby's wartime service, and I'll post any details here. Unfortunately, the media have managed to get many details remarkably wrong, as per usual.
Rest easy Mr. Darby.
